Alca-Lu to upgrade SFR’s broadband network

14 Jan 2014

Equipment vendor Alcatel-Lucent has been contracted by French telecoms operator SFR to transition its legacy optical network to all-IP transport-based architecture. According to a joint press release, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) converged WDM/OTN/Packet based-platform, together with its 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM) for seamless management for both the IP and Optical portfolio. In addition, Alcatel-Lucent will take responsibility for the design, installation and commissioning of the infrastructure. The upgrade was commissioned in order to address traffic growth and enable faster and less expensive deployment of new services to meet demand from residential and business customers of both fixed and mobile services.
