MVNO subscribers to reach 50m by end-2015

13 Jan 2014

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) expects the number of wireless subscribers signed up to a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) to reach 50 million by the end of 2015, Marbridge Daily writes, citing a report from MIIT’s China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR). According to the report, at that date MVNO subscriptions will account for around 3% of mobile customers. MIIT issued the nation’s first MVNO licences earlier this month to eleven companies, as part of a two-year trial to increase competition in the market. However, two of the newcomers – Telling Telecom and SoShare Online Network – have said that they will not engage in price wars with network operators.
