Alca-Lu to bolster Lazus metro networks

9 Jan 2014

Wholesale data provider Lazus has selected Alcatel Lucent to deploy fibre-optic networks in nine cities in Colombia, the French-US vendor announced in a press release. The infrastructure will be used to deliver high-bandwidth mobile backhaul as well as wholesale services for businesses and IPTV and cloud service providers. Under the deal, Alca-Lu will supply its converged internet protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) solution, including its 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS), 7705 Service Aware Router (SAR) and 7210 Service Access Switch (SAS), in addition to network planning and management tools. The solution will be rolled out in Bogota, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Sincelejo, Monteria, Bucaramanga, Cali and Popayan.

Commenting on the deal, Lazus’s commercial vice president said: ‘The deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP/MPLS solution across Colombia will enable Lazus to remain the leader in our urban markets by offering cutting edge services for the newly available 4G-LTE [Long Term Evolution] as well as continuing to provide high quality support for existing 2G and 3G services.’
