Altylis Seme Telecom, a new company backed by Cameroonian businessman Seme Noungon, plans to begin offering low cost telephony services in early 2014, La Nouvelle Expression reports. Around XAF5 billion (USD10.4 million) has been invested in the firm, which has received funding from the Afriland First Bank and will provide mobile services in cooperation with one of the country’s existing telecoms operators. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that alongside the two active wireless network operators Orange and MTN Cameroon, a number of mobile service resellers and virtual operators have established themselves in the market, including Eto’o Telecom (operating under the brand Set’Mobile), which is owned by footballer Samuel Eto’o. Set’Mobile officially commenced services in July 2012 using the network infrastructure of French-owned Orange.
