AIS raising three-year 3G network budget to USD2.7bn

7 Jan 2014

Thai cellular market leader Advanced Info Service (AIS) will raise its three-year 2013-15 investment budget for rolling out its 3G 2100MHz network to THB90 billion (USD2.72 billion) from the previously announced figure of THB70 billion, according to its parent company InTouch (formerly Shin Corp). As reported by Thai newspaper The Nation, InTouch said it will pour extra investment into existing businesses following the group’s failure to win a commercial terrestrial digital TV channel licence last month. AIS has already deployed 2100MHz network coverage of over 70% of the population, with a presence in all 77 Thai provinces, and is targeting the expansion of coverage to 90% in 2014 and at least 97% in 2015.
