Spanish-backed cellco Movistar has begun offering new mobile data plans and Long Term Evolution (LTE)-compatible devices in preparation for the activation of its 4G network in Lima on 2 January 2014. At launch the network will be available in the Surco, San Borja, Miraflores, San Isidro and La Molina districts of the capital. A spokesperson for the operator, Jose Antonio Cassinelli, explained that the cellco planned to invest USD250 million in infrastructure development for LTE. Cassinelli went on, commenting: ‘We have started a new major change in telecommunications in Peru. It will be like going from black and white TV to colour TV.’
