Sector regulator the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has shortlisted five consultants to advise on the sale of 3G spectrum, the Express Tribune writes. The regulator is due to make a final selection within ten working days, before it moves forward with drawing up a policy document for the spectrum auction. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the sale of 3G spectrum has been in the works for nearly eight years, having encountered numerous delays and setbacks. The most recent attempt to allocate the frequencies was derailed in early 2012 by suspicions of foul play in the selection process for consultants. The PTA had not followed the instructions of oversight body the Auction Supervisory Committee (ASC), hand-picking its shortlist of candidate consultants rather than forming an evaluation committee to assess the applications.
