IBW given green light to operate through spat with regulator

19 Nov 2013

A Costa Rican court has frozen sanctions imposed by telecoms regulator Sutel against IBW Communications, La Nacion writes. The firm had been instructed to suspend its wireless internet services, offered under the ‘Japi’ brand, on the basis that its concession did not permit the sale of wireless internet. Sutel issued the provider with a CRC19 million (USD37,385) fine for the infraction and ordered it to suspend the operation. The dispute is ongoing, though IBW may now operate normally until the matter is resolved.
