Iranian WiMAX operator Mobin Net Communication Company (MobinNet), a joint venture between Paya Communication and Iran Mobin Consortium, has extended its WiMAX broadband network in the North Khorasan province to cover the towns of Gorgan, Sari and Bojnurd. According to a company press release, the number of base transceiver stations (BTS) in the three towns has increased by 30%.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, a commercial WiMAX launch took place under the MobinNet banner in August 2010, and by May 2013 the operator’s website advertised WiMAX coverage in 135 cities (an increase of 22 cities from eight months earlier), offering services at speeds of between 128kbps (the only speed marketed to residential customers) and 2Mbps. The company had an estimated 550,000 WiMAX subscribers at end-September 2013, corresponding to market share of 17.1% at that date.
