MTN Group picks Intracom WiBAS system for sub-Sahara

12 Nov 2013

South Africa-based regional mobile operator MTN Group has selected Intracom Telecom of Greece to supply it with its WiBAS point-to-multipoint wireless system, as part of its network upgrade programme in the sub-Saharan region. MTN is active in 22 countries across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The new Intracom-supplied WiBAS system will enable its business units to decrease their annual spending on fees for operating frequencies, reduce the expenses for site rental and enhance their network coverage, and offer high-quality, reliable broadband services to its corporate subscribers across MTN’s countries of operation. The framework agreement covers all 22 countries served by MTN operators, although in the initial phase Intracom Telecom will deploy its WiBAS system to MTN subsidiaries in South Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon and Benin. The first systems under will be deployed in MTN’s network in South Africa by the end of 2013.
