New Zealand-based cellco Telecom Mobile has confirmed that 40,000 Long Term Evolution (LTE)-enabled SIM cards are currently in circulation, on the eve of tomorrow’s 4G launch. The SIM cards were sent to existing Telecom Mobile customers who requested an upgrade ahead of the switch-on, although Telecom Retail CEO Chris Quin noted that not all of those cards have been activated yet. A total of 18 LTE-suitable devices will go on sale from tomorrow, when the network goes live in parts of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
