Cellcom offers 400% bonus for mobile top-ups

18 Oct 2013

Cellcom, Guinea’s third largest mobile operator in terms of subscribers, has launched a new marketing campaign offering a 400% bonus on all mobile reloads from 14 October, Agence Ecofin reports. The bonus must, however, be used before a specified deadline, as it cannot be transferred over to the following month. Prior to this promotion, Cellcom offered a GNF500 (USD0.07) bonus per month for two years to customers who purchased a new SIM card at GNF3,000, on the provision that they regularly use their number. The company claimed at the time that the ‘one-of-a-kind’ promotion made it the cheapest wireless service provider in Guinea.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Cellcom signed up an estimated two million mobile users by end-June 2013, putting it in third place in the mobile sector behind market leader Orange Guinea and second-placed MTN Guinea (Areeba), corresponding to a market share of 26.8%. All but a small fraction of Cellcom’s users are pre-paid.
