MER Group selected to provide turnkey solution for Mozambican duo

8 Oct 2013

Israeli firm MER Group has announced that its telecoms division has been chosen to provide full turnkey tower site solutions for ‘two leading mobile operators’ in Mozambique. The deal includes site design, tower supply, site construction, as well as hybrid energy system design and implementation. The company’s telecoms division has set up local operations with warehouse and logistic facilities employing teams of civil workers, engineers and tower experts in order to provide on-going support.

While the identities of the companies involved have not been divulged, TeleGeography notes that well-established players mCel and Vodacom Mozambique are the most likely candidates. A third operator, Viettel-backed Movitel, launched in May 2012 and its aggressive rollout helped it secure an 18.3% share of the mobile market by 30 June 2013.
