T-Mobile Czech Republic, a unit of Deutsche Telekom (DT), has announced the commercial launch of Long Term Evolution (LTE) in Prague and Mlada Boleslav, as well as the extension of its 4G coverage of the Czech capital. In a press release, the cellco said that as a result of the latest service expansion, 26% of the territory (mainly focused in and around the Prague 4 district) and 33% of the population is now covered by its 4G signal. By the end of this year, T-Mobile CR intends to extend coverage to around 50% of the population of Prague, with the operator noting that future enhancements to its LTE footprint are attendant on the outcome of the regulator, Czech Telecommunication Office’s (CTU’s) forthcoming mobile frequency auction.
The operator says the new service is available to all T-Mobile CR customers with a valid mobile data plan in the areas currently covered, provided they have a suitable LTE-enabled device. The Czech operator’s 4G network supports a number of smartphones, tablets and dongle modems, including the Sony Xperia Z1, BlackBerry Q10, HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s models. Maximum download/upload speeds of 100Mbps/37.5Mbps are being touted for its ‘Mobilni internet’ 10GB and higher service plans and for its ‘with us without borders; offers – ‘S nami bez hranic’ and ‘S nami bez hranic+’. All other T-Mobile CR 4G plans support maximum download and upload speeds of 42Mbps and 5.76Mbps respectively.
