Batelco contracts Ericsson for LTE, 3G expansion

25 Sep 2013

Bahraini full-service telco Batelco has selected Ericsson as the sole supplier for its LTE and W-CDMA mobile expansion plans in Bahrain. The existing 4G and 3G networks will be expanded to cover new areas in the country, and upgraded to provide faster mobile broadband connections at speeds of up to 150Mbps, following the recent award of additional multi-band spectrum to all three cellular operators in the Kingdom. The Swedish vendor will install LTE base stations in the new coverage areas and upgrade the existing Evolved Packet Core network, while support for LTE roaming is also being introduced by means of the new Ericsson Diameter Signaling Controller, which is designed to help operators manage roaming relations while improving service reliability and network security.
