AIS extends 3G investment plan by USD630m

19 Sep 2013

Advanced Info Service (AIS), Thailand’s largest mobile operator by users, has earmarked an additional THB20 billion (USD630 million) for its 3G 2100MHz network expansion programme, reports the Bangkok Post, quoting CEO Wichian Mektrakarn, who said the board had already approved the extra spending which adds to an initial three-year CAPEX plan (ending next year) of THB70 billion. AIS expects to increase its number of 3G base stations to 20,000 next year. Wichian also confirmed that AIS intends to migrate all remaining 3G service users on its 900MHz network to the 2100MHz network by the end of this year.
