Main One secures US grant for network expansion

9 Sep 2013

Main One Cable Company has secured a USD550,000 grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency to extend its services to the Niger Delta region, local newspaper The Guardian reports. The project will see the expansion of approximately 300 miles of fibre-optic cable and supporting infrastructure between two of Nigeria’s most important commercial centres. ‘The extension would connect to the existing Main One cable system, which spans approximately 4,500 miles and provides additional capacity for international and internet connectivity for its beneficiary countries, including Nigeria,’ said Jeffrey Hawkins, the US Consul General in Lagos.
