TD boosts LTE speed to 150Mbps; Congstar subs reach three million

6 Sep 2013

Telekom Deutschland (TD), the domestic fixed and mobile unit of Deutsche Telekom, has increased the maximum speed offered over its 4G LTE network to 150Mbps. The faster data rates are now available in all towns and urban centres which have had access to a 100Mbps service to date; this coverage area includes over 100 cities and the number is expected to rise to almost 200 by the end of the year. From 1 October TD will adjust its current tariffs to reflect the network upgrade, with 100Mbps download speeds boosted to 150Mbps and plans offering 50Mbps doubled to 100Mbps at no extra charge. The LTE network upgrade forms part of Deutsche Telekom’s plans unveiled at the start of the week for the rollout of a high-performance telecoms infrastructure in Germany based on multiple technologies. The programme will also see the telco deploy vectoring technology and further expand its fibre-optic infrastructure to allow for data transfer rates of up to 100Mbps.

In other news, Deutsche Telekom’s discount brand Congstar has announced that its subscriber base exceeded the three million mark in July.
