Entel geared to expand mobile and IT market shares in Peru

5 Sep 2013

Chilean telco Entel is looking to expand its market share in Peru’s wireless and IT sectors through its recently acquired mobile arm Nextel del Peru and Americatel respectively, Gestion cites Fernando Norero, IT product manager for Entel Chile, as saying. Norero did not elaborate on specific plans for the two companies, except that Entel would collaborate closely with its new acquisition Nextel. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Nextel had a comparatively narrow user base, targeting primarily corporate and SME subscribers, until May 2012 when the cellco launched a full suite of voice and data services to private users over its W-CDMA network. At the end of June 2013, Nextel’s share of the wireless market was 6.0%, compared to 5.1% a year earlier.
