Tele2 Netherlands, the Dutch subsidiary of Swedish group Tele2, says it hopes to secure a significant share of the wireless market in the Netherlands once it launches services over its own network. ‘We have to invest hundreds of millions in our network in the Netherlands. We don’t do that just for a few percentage points of market share,’ said Guenther Vogelpoel, the company’s CEO. The executive went on to say that the company aims to achieve this by offering lower prices for LTE data services than its rivals. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at the end of 2012 Tele2 paid SEK1.4 billion (USD214 million) to secure a concession to operate its own mobile network in the Netherlands. Tele2’s MVNO, broadband, fixed line voice and pay-TV services in the Netherlands currently contribute around 18% of the group’s revenue.
