CTU to push ahead with plans to issue fourth mobile concession

15 Aug 2013

Reuters reports that the Czech telecommunications regulator, CTU, will reserve spectrum in the 800MHz band and the 1800MHz band for a new entrant. The watchdog is keen to add a fourth player to the market, but scrapped an earlier auction in March before setting aside increased spectrum for a newcomer. The existing operators – Telefonica, T-Mobile and Vodafone – claim that this could leave them at a disadvantage if a new competitor has to pay less for its concession. ‘CTU remains convinced that the prepared conditions for the auction are in line with national and European legislation,’ the regulator said.
