Movistar begins LTE testing

12 Aug 2013

Spanish-backed full service provider Movistar Peru has begun trialling 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology at its headquarters in Surquillo, local news outlet RPP reports. The tests achieved peak downloads speeds of 154Mbps on a laptop and 80Mbps via smartphone, which Dennis Fernandez, the company’s VP of network operations, described as a tenfold increase compared to 3G data transmission speeds. The telco’s licence stipulates an August 2014 deadline for the launch of LTE services.
