Magyar Telekom posts strong second quarter results

8 Aug 2013

Magyar Telekom has posted revenues of HUF156.9 billion (USD697 million) for the second quarter of 2013, up 7% year-on-year and reflecting what the company describes as ‘the significant increase in revenues both from energy services and mobile equipment sales, the growing revenues from System Integration/IT services and the improving underlying performance of Telekom Hungary’. Net income attributable to holders of the parent company came in at HUF12.2 billion, up 14.3% year-on-year, primarily due to the higher sales coupled with lower financial expenses and lower depreciation and amortization expenses.

The telco also revealed that in its home market of Hungary it had 4.838 million wireless subscribers at 30 June 2013, up by just 18,000 year-on-year, although the pre-paid/post-paid mix improved slightly from 46.5% post-paid at the end of June 2012 to 48% at the end of June 2013. Non-voice revenues grew to 25% in the quarter under review, up from 23.3% in the corresponding period last year. Total fixed line voice accesses in Hungary slipped from 1.569 million at end of June 2012 to 1.521 million at the end of June 2013, although retail broadband subscribers increased from 765,996 to 811,630 over the twelve month period. IPTV witnessed impressive growth, with subscriber numbers climbing by more than 28% to 354,242 at 30 June 2013.
