DTAC raises budget to expand 2100MHz 3G coverage

7 Aug 2013

Thailand’s second largest cellco by subscribers Digital Total Access Communication (DTAC) has raised its annual investment budget to THB14.5 billion (USD461 million) from THB12.5 billion to expand the coverage of its new 2100MHz 3G network, launched commercially last month. Thai newspaper The Nation quotes DTAC’s chief of finance, Petter Furberg, saying that the company would boost spending this year to achieve coverage of half of the country, compared to the initial target of 30%, while adding that the three-year investment budget is maintained at THB34 billion. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that DTAC’s existing 850MHz 3G network offered 60% population coverage ahead of the 2100MHz launch.
