The Bahamas Investment Authority (BIA) is currently reviewing applications from several companies looking to provide wireless services in the country, when the sector is liberalised next year, the Nassau Guardian writes. A senior official confirmed that an application from Digicel Group was under consideration but stopped short of naming any of the other applicants. Minister of state for investments Khaalis Rolle was quoted as saying: ‘We understand that it is [Digicel’s] intent to participate in the sector from several perspectives, and I think Digicel is a very dominant cellular carrier… As a matter of policy, we are currently reviewing all applications that come before the government to participate in the sector.’
