Russian billionaire eyes possible bid for Telefonica O2 Czech Republic

30 Jul 2013

An unconfirmed report in The Moscow Times has suggested that Russian billionaire Vladimir Yevtushenkov is considering a takeover bid for Telefonica of Spain’s Czech operations. Yevtushenkov, who founded Russian cellular group Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) around 20 years ago, is said to be studying a number of takeover targets as he looks to expand his telecoms empire overseas. In an interview with Bloomberg the businessman said that he is considering ‘possibilities everywhere’, and is studying every opportunity ‘very thoroughly’. Telefonica declined to comment.
