19 Jul 2013

Peru’s Deputy Minister of Communications, Raul Perez-Reyes, has revealed that six companies have submitted bids in the tender to deploy the National Fibre-Optic Backbone project. According to a report from TeleSemana, which cites local newspaper La Republica, the firms in question include one from Mexico, one from Colombia and another from Asia. Earlier this year twelve companies were named as potential bidders, with these including Level 3, Samsung, KT Corp and Grupo Azteca, among others. The winning bidder will be announced at the end of October, and construction of the new network is scheduled to begin in July next year, with completion expected by end-2015. The finished network will reach 180 of the country’s 195 provincial capitals.
