Bangladeshi state-run cellco Teletalk is set to expand its commercial 3G W-CDMA/HSPA mobile network – the only one of its type in the country – to the city of Rajshahi on the western border ‘very soon’ according to a Daily Star report. Tower and fibre infrastructure have already been set up for the launch in the city but some ‘other necessary work’ remains ongoing, according to company sources. Teletalk launched 3G services in Dhaka in October 2012, and expanded coverage to surrounding areas of the capital including Gazipur, Narayanganj and Savar before launching in the major city of Chittagong in March 2013. Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar were scheduled for coverage by end-June 2013 (although as of yet unconfirmed).
