CSL activates extra LTE 1800MHz bandwidth

5 Jul 2013

Hong Kong cellco CSL has announced that its two main brands, 1O1O and One2Free, have enhanced the performance of their 4G LTE mobile broadband services after switching on an additional 2×5MHz of 1800MHz band LTE frequencies across ‘most of the network’, expanding active 1800MHz LTE bandwidth to 2×15MHz. CSL plans to continue expanding in-use 1800MHz LTE spectrum to 2×20MHz ‘across the entire territory by 2014’, further augmenting the speed and capacity of its dual-band 4G services, which also utilise 2×20MHz in the 2600MHz band. TeleGeography notes that CSL is refarming its existing 1800MHz spectrum from its original application in the cellco’s 900MHz/1800MHz 2G/2.5G GSM/GPRS/EDGE network, whilst some 900MHz spectrum has been refarmed to 3G/3.5G W-CDMA/DC-HSPA+ network services.
