Norwegian telecoms group Telenor has announced plans to invest more than USD1 billion in Pakistan following the allocation of 3G licences, ProPakistani cites Telenor president Jon Fredrik Baksaas as saying. In addition to the licence fee, Telenor will spend USD700 million on rolling out 3G networks nationwide. Baksaas noted that the prolonged delay in allocating 3G concessions has created a built up demand for the service and expects the growth rate for 3G subscriptions to be higher than other regional markets. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database Telenor Pakistan was the second largest cellco by subscribers, with 30.84 million users as at end-March 2013, representing a market share of 25.3%.
