Kuwait’s cellcos forgo MNP transfer fee

11 Jun 2013

Kuwait’s mobile network operators – Zain Kuwait, Wataniya Telecom (NMTC) and Kuwait Telecom Company (Viva) – have agreed to waive a KWD5 (USD17.58) phone number transfer fee proposed by the Ministry of Communications (MoC) from 15 June 2013, Kuwait Times reported. According to Zain CEO Omar Al-Omar, subscribers can switch mobile service providers following the terms and conditions stated by MoC without having to pay the KWD5, as the charge will be liable to the subscriber’s recipient company. The announcement was confirmed by both NMTC’s head of telecommunications management systems Saleh Al-Houti and Viva’s CEO Salman Al-Badran.
