MTS boosts Moscow coverage with FD-LTE rollout

3 Jun 2013

According to unconfirmed local media reports, Russian mobile giant Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has boosted its 4G capabilities in Moscow with the deployment of Frequency Division Long Term Evolution (FD-LTE) equipment. The infrastructure covers the capital’s business centres at launch, but the cellco expects to extend coverage to airports, railway stations, shopping centres and major highways in due course.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in September 2012 MTS announced the commercial launch of Russia’s first Time Division (TD)-LTE network in Moscow and 40 ‘population centres’ in the surrounding region.
