TOT, CAT join new interconnection rate from 1 July

23 May 2013

State-owned Thai telcos CAT Telecom and TOT have confirmed to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) that they will adopt the new network interconnection rate of THB0.45 (USD0.015) per call minute on 1 July, The Nation reports, quoting an NBTC source. Private sector cellcos AIS, DTAC and True earlier agreed to charge each other the THB0.45 interconnection rate across their 2G/3G networks from 1 July, replacing their previous rate of THB1, while CAT currently has a bilateral memorandum of understanding with each of the three private operators on a temporary interconnection rate of THB0.50. The respective 3G divisions of AIS, DTAC and True (the latter including 4G operations) adopted the THB0.45 rate early, at the beginning of last month, while TOT had also informed the watchdog of its plan to adopt the same rate for both its mobile and fixed line telephony services. This is the first time TOT has formally adopted a universal interconnection charge, while the state-owned firm remains in litigation stretching back years relating to interconnection charge disputes with DTAC and True. True’s fixed line division and provincial fixed line telco TT&T have yet to reach interconnection charge agreements with any parties.
