Robi’s EBITDA falls 4.2% q-o-q; reaches 89% territorial coverage

23 May 2013

Robi Axiata, Bangladesh’s third largest cellco by users, has reported EBITDA of BDT4.104 billion (USD51.9 million) in the first quarter of 2013, 4.2% down from the previous quarter, despite a 5.5% quarter-on-quarter increase in revenues to BDT10.806 billion, as the three-month customer growth rate shrank to 1.7% in the face of fierce competition. Net profit also shrank q-o-q, to BDT1.131 billion in January-March 2013 amid higher SIM tax subsidies.

Robi also announced that geographical mobile network coverage has increased to 89%, and population coverage has reached 98.7%. The total number of Robi’s base transceiver stations (BTS) stood at 8,737 at the end of Q1 2013.
