Tigo launches 3.5G network

Cellco Tigo Tanzania has launched commercial 3G/3.5G W-CDMA/HSPA+ mobile broadband services, marketing the new network as ‘The most affordable network in Tanzania’. Devices available to users at launch include a Tigo-branded HSPA+ dongle USB modem with datacard (maximum download/upload capabilities 7.2Mbps/5.76Mbps) and a Wi-Fi router (with an inclusive 4GB of free data when purchased). The operator’s coverage map shows initial 3G/3.5G coverage of at least eleven locations mostly in eastern, central and northern areas of the country (including Mwanza, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Dodoma, Morogoro, Pwani, Ilala, and Zanzibar), with at least 15 other locations shown as earmarked for coverage expansion, mostly in southwest and southeast Tanzania.
