Etisalat completes tests of VoLTE and eSRVCC

14 May 2013

Saudi Arabian operator Mobily (Etihad Etisalat) has announced the completion of what it claims to be the first successful tests of Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) and enhanced Single Radio Call Continuity (eSRVCC) technologies in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, enabling end users to experience High Definition (HD) voice service, faster call set-up and HD Video calling over 4G LTE networks. The tests were conducted with Etisalat’s long-standing partner Huawei, the main provider of end-to-end networking solutions, after the upgrade of the required 3G and 4G nodes to the desired level based on the network architecture in the test environment, Ameinfo reported.

VoLTE is the next standard of voice communication to be used in LTE networks, providing seamless voice services with no delay in transition from 4G LTE to 3G networks, while eSRVCC enables high quality voice service. According to Etisalat’s Mobile Core Director Mohammad Abdul cited by Arab News, smartphones supporting LTE and VoLTE along with the implementation of SRVCC will provide a platform for commercial and technical readiness in the region.
