Thai newspaper The Nation reports that Thailand’s three major private sector cellular network operators have reached an agreement with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to adopt a new, lower universal network interconnection charge. The new rate of THB0.45 (USD0.015) per minute is a reduction from the current THB1 per minute charge that Advanced Info Service (AIS), Total Access Communication (DTAC) and True Corp currently pay one another for terminating calls on their networks. The NBTC stated that the new wholesale rate is expected to encourage them to reduce retail call rates in the future, while it added that the cellcos should soon sign a memorandum of understanding to adopt the new rate effective 1 July 2013.
