Cable Bahamas Ltd (CBL) has announced plans to increase international connectivity, boosting capacity between the Bahamas and the US by 220% to cope with increasing data usage, local news portal Bahamas Islands Info reports. The upgrade, which forms part of the cableco’s ongoing network optimisation programme, follows a substantial increase in download speeds available to end-users last month. As noted by CommsUpdate, the cableco upgraded its 3Mbps, 6Mbps and 9Mbps subscriptions to 15Mbps, 30Mbps and 50Mbps whilst introducing a new top-tier service ‘REVON Extreme’ with download speeds of up to 70Mbps.
Head of marketing at CBL David Burrows commented on the upgrade: ‘Cable Bahamas is in the forefront of enabling and maintaining our country’s vital links for commerce and trade. Over the last year we have been delivering an average 23 terabytes of data per month through our network. Since the launch of our new speeds this has increased to over 28 terabytes per month. That increasing demand for traffic throughput was the motivating factor behind the move to increase the international bandwidth.’
