Movitel passes the two million subscriber mark

During an event to celebrate the first anniversary of Viettel-backed cellular operator Movitel’s commercial launch in Mozambique, CEO Ramos Sengo told representatives of the press that the company has notched up two million subscribers. Further, the cellco now has coverage of all 128 Mozambican districts, up from 78 at launch. In addition, the company’s fibre-optic network currently extends 12,600km and is expected to reach 20,000km by the end of 2013. Finally, Sengo claimed that investment in the cellco is expected to rise from USD117 million in 2012 to USD300 million in FY2013.
