NCC says MNP will finally be implemented later this month

11 Apr 2013

The director of public affairs at the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Tony Ojobo, has told local newspaper THISDAY that mobile number portability (MNP) will begin this month, despite repeated delays. MNP was first announced by the NCC in 2006 but was not implemented. Further deadlines of 2009, December 2012, 25 March 2013 and 1 April 2013 have all come and gone. When faced with the deadline of 1 April 2013, operators told the NCC that they required three additional weeks to enable them to complete their preparations. ‘We have been liberal enough in shifting dates, in order to allow for adequate preparation of all networks but this time around we will shift no further as we are determined that MNP must begin this April,’ Ojobo said.
