Augustin Matata Ponyo, prime minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has presided over the launch of the second stage of the country’s nationwide fibre-optic rollout, Agence Ecofin has reported. The USD215 million deployment will see 3,500km of new infrastructure extended from Kinshasa to Katanga, through the provinces of Bandundu and Kasai. The first phase of the project commenced last year, encompassing Moanda, Bas-Congo and Kinshasa, with 1,500km of fibre deployed.
