Reborn U:fon reports strong demand for its CDMA products

26 Mar 2013

Czech mobile operator Mobilkom (U:fon), which was taken over by Air Telecom, a subsidiary of F & N Marketing Group, in December 2012, is reporting rising demand for its CDMA-based services in the country. In a press release dated 14 March, the operator reported a three-fold increase in sales of mobile services since emerging from its debt restructuring under the stewardship of its new owner. The wireless service provider says that its residential fixed-wireless service accounts for 63% of new sales, followed by mobile internet (25%), and augmented by a new mobile tariff costing CZK1 (USD0.051) per minute for (unlimited) cross-network calls (12%).

U:fon claims its CDMA network can offer ‘better coverage’ outside of major towns and cities in the Republic, and that it is currently the only operator offering a ‘truly unlimited’ mobile data plan at a low cost (CZK689 per month). Further, the carrier’s unlimited voice call services are available for a flat fee of CZK840 per month. It is also experiencing rising demand for its range of residential tariffs, which at the end of February this year was up a third when compared to the same period in 2012. The operator’s fixed tariff costs CZK179 a month and includes 20 minutes of calls to all networks and then CZK2 per minute (mobiles) and CZK0.80 (fixed lines) thereafter. U:fon’s suite of services also includes a fixed DSL internet offer.
