Lebanon-based telecoms group BinTel, which operates under the ‘Azur’ brand name in the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) and Gabon, is reportedly looking for a buyer for its African operations. A source familiar with the company told TMT Finance: ‘BinTel has been considering an exit from some of these countries for a while now. However, as the smaller players in most of its markets, it’s unclear if there’s much appetite from buyers at this stage’. TeleGeography notes that the exit strategy is at odds with BinTel’s recent activities; in 2012 the firm acquired a 25% stake in Somalian telco NationLink, which also offers services in the autonomous region of Somaliland.
