Egyptian mobile network operators Etisalat Misr and Vodafone Egypt have both granted Swedish vendor Ericsson the right to manage and operate their mobile base stations, Daily News Egypt reports. It is understood that the vendor will have responsibility for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all company facilities, while it has specifically been tasked with ensuring an adequate supply of diesel for the infrastructure. An official from Vodafone was cited as saying that the decision to contract Ericsson for the work had been made as part of its new strategy to ‘deconstruct its administrative infrastructure.’ Officials from Etisalat meanwhile confirmed that it had decided to call on Ericsson to administer its mobile cell sites in light of the country’s diesel crisis.
