MTN activates DC-HSPA+ upgrade

18 Mar 2013

MTN Uganda has implemented the nation’s first dual carrier (DC) HSPA+ upgrade on its wireless network, boosting maximum download speeds to 42Mbps, New Vision reports. Chief marketing officer for the South African backed cellco, Ernst Fonternel said: ‘This is double the speed that any other mobile operator in Uganda provides.’

As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, MTN announced in early January 2013 that it plans to invest USD70 million in infrastructure projects in 2013 with a view to launching 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE).
