New players call for fresh spectrum auction

New entrants to the Costa Rican wireless market Movistar and Claro – subsidiaries of LatAm giants Telefonica and America Movil (AM) respectively – have called for the government to auction additional frequencies to allow for the launch of fourth generation (4G) services, TeleSemana reports. A spokesperson for Claro noted that the country is ‘more than ready to enter the Long Term Evolution (LTE) era’ adding that the market ‘reached a level of maturity quickly.’
