AIS’ annual net profit up 57% on 11% revenue rise

7 Feb 2013

Advanced Info Service (AIS), Thailand’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, has posted net profit of THB34.9 billion (USD1.17 billion) for full-year 2012, a 57% increase on 2011, while fourth-quarter profit jumped 131% to THB8.5 billion, as it booked THB3.2 billion in network impairment expenses a year earlier (a 23% rise excluding the impairment). The cellco reported that its profit growth was based on strong voice and data services performance and higher handset sales following the launch of the iPhone 5, Reuters reports. The company is aiming for 2013 service revenue growth of 6%-8% after rising 11% in 2012, while it raised its three-year investment budget by 40% to THB70 billion to accelerate 3G network installation. At the end of 2012, AIS had 35.7 million subscribers after adding a net 419,800 in October-December.
