KPN teams up with Fon to offer Wi-Fi access to end users

23 Jan 2013

Dow Jones Newswires writes that Dutch operator KPN Telecom has struck a partnership agreement with Wi-Fi network provider Fon to offer KPN customers access to Wi-Fi hotspots in the Netherlands, as well as access to over seven million hotspots across the globe. Under the tie-up, KPN users will be able to reserve a portion of their bandwidth at home for sharing with other users, and in turn gain access to shared broadband connections of fellow KPN users in the Netherlands and Fon users in other countries. The public Wi-Fi network is complementary to KPN’s mobile and fixed network with over 1,500 hotspots in the Netherlands. The incumbent expects to test the new Wi-Fi network in 1H13, with commercial launch planned for the second half of 2013.
