Ghana’s cellcos plead innocence over alleged SIM registration breaches

18 Jan 2013

A number of Ghanaian mobile operators have reacted swiftly to refute accusations from the National Communications Authority (NCA) that they are not complying with rules and regulations governing SIM card registration in the country. The move comes after the watchdog issued a statement that it was concerned retailers acting for some mobile network operators were not following the appropriate rules on the purchase and registration of SIM cards. However, Vodafone Ghana has issued a rejection of the NCA’s assertion, noting that it has always complied with the regulator’s approved procedures, while Airtel Ghana’s Kwame Gyan said hsi firm not only sticks to the guidelines but also follows up afterwards to ensure that the right things have been done by the end user.
