Nawras, Oman’s second national telecoms operator, has announced the completion of an upgrade to its mobile network in the Governorate of Muscat, following the launch of a programme last year aimed at ‘turbocharging’ its infrastructure across the Sultanate. After network testing, the upgrade has already been completed in Al Bustan, Muttrah, Wadi Kabir, Wattaya, Ruwi, Darsait, Qurm, Medinat Al Ilam, Ministries District, Al Khuwair, Ghubra, Ghala, Seeb, Mawaleh, Al Hail, Al Khoudh, Sultan Qaboos University and Al Rusayl. As part of the ‘turbocharging’ programme, Nawras is boosting the speed and capacity of its mobile broadband internet service, as well as increasing outdoor and indoor coverage. ‘We are future proofing our network with a firm commitment to performance and reliability,’ noted Nawras CTO, Wolfgang Wemhoff, adding: ‘This rollout is being implemented in phases as we extend our 3G+ coverage to reach the maximum number of people wherever they live and work across Oman. We are also preparing to launch our exciting 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services, which will start after extensive testing has been completed. This will ensure we immediately offer a service considered the best in its class once introduced to the market.’
